Even though it’s the 21st century, it is sad how a woman is still told that she is incomplete without marriage and kids. Doesn’t matter how successful women are, they are only considered “settled”, if they are married. No wonder millions of young women are forced into marriage by their parents, just because their parents believe marriage is more important than their career. Some parents even expect their daughters to give up on their careers for marriage if that’s what it takes.
Even though many women are leading life on their own terms, there are far many, who are still expected to follow the social norms of marriage ad kids. Contrary to the popular belief, Malaika Arora made a statement that irritated many but also left many inspired.
On Malaika Arora’s birthday, we are celebrating the time when she spoke about how she’s enjoying being single. She shared how true happiness has nothing to do with marriage. In her powerful post, Malaika spoke about how women need to put a high price tag on their self-esteem. She wrote,
“The happiest women today are not the married ones. They’re not the single ones. They’re not the ones with stable careers and good incomes. The happiest women are the ones who made a choice to love themselves wholly and truly.”
Malaika Arora has been trolled for many of her personal life decisions. Firstly, she was trolled for her divorce from Arbaaz Khan, and then dating Arjun Kapoor, a man who is much younger than her. Because, in our society, a man can marry a younger woman, but a woman can’t.
In her powerful note, she further added: “Women who chose to leave the past behind, work on their self-esteem and put a high price tag on their self-esteem. They stopped playing victims. They stopped whining in self-pity and dining in pity parties. They moved past their anger, tears and bitterness. They realized that happiness is a personal choice and responsibility. They chose to be defined by their present, but not their pasts.”
While ending her note, she had said, “They (women) are happy because they don’t need validation from anyone. They are happy because they know that they don’t need to throw shade on anyone for them to shine. They are happy because they chose to be Queens.”
