Recently, Sandalwood actor Kiccha Sudeep reignited the national language debate at the launch event of his film, ‘R: Deadliest Gangster Ever’. Talking about the recent success of the KGF, the actor mentioned that South Indian directors were more than capable of making films that have a worldwide impact. He also mentioned: “Hindi is no more the National Language, it’s no more a National language”!

This statement on Hindi not being a national language initiated the debate as Bollywood star Ajay Devgn responded to Kiccha’s view.
Taking to Twitter, Ajay Devgn shared his 2 cents on the conversation. Ajay Devgn tweeted in Hindi, “@KicchaSudeep my brother, According to you if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your mother tongue movies by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man.”

In response to Devgn’s statement, Kiccha promptly sent out a series of tweets. In his first tweet, Sudeep said, “sir.. the context to why i said tat line is entirely different to the way I guess it has reached you. Probably wil emphasis on why the statement was made when I see you in person. It wasn’t to hurt, Provoke or to start any debate. Why would I sir”.

Following with another humbling response, he wrote, “And sir @ajaydevgn ,, I did understand the txt you sent in hindi. Tats only coz we all have respected, loved and learnt hindi. No offense sir,,,but was wondering what’d the situation be if my response was typed in kannada.!! Don’t we too belong to India sir.”

To which Devgn clarified his stance and responded: “Hi @KicchaSudeep, You are a friend. thanks for clearing up the misunderstanding. I’ve always thought of the film industry as one. We respect all languages and we expect everyone to respect our language as well. Perhaps, something was lost in translation”

However, the tiff between both stars seems to have already been put to rest by Kiccha Sudeep, as he shared his second last tweet of the series. He wrote, “Translation & interpretations are perspectives sir. Tats the reason not reacting wothout knowing the complete matter,,,matters.:) I don’t blame you @ajaydevgn sir. Perhaps it would have been a happy moment if i had received a tweet from u for a creative reason. Luv&Regards”.

While the actors may have sorted out their differences, their fans haven’t. Instead of burying the hatchet, Twitter users have taken the debate one step forward.
You this twit killed feeling of South peoples, bollywood artists also makes movie in other South languages. I can’t expect from you.Hindi cannot forcefully impose other states. We don’t wants to hindi as national language, it may be official language of india..

Pretty courageous from someone who doesn’t mind lifting scripts from South Indian languages #Drishyam Besides, Hindi is NOT the national language. Respect should be mutual.”

Finally, a user explained the Constitution of India to Ajay Devgn,“In the Constitution, Hindi was declared as an official language and not a national language. Part XVII of the Constitution deals with Official Language. Under Article 343, official language of the Union has been prescribed, which includes Hindi in Devanagari script and English.”

Paying his respect to the diversity of Indian languages, Kiccha Sudeep put in his last word. He wrote, “I love and respect every language of our country sir. I would want this topic to rest,,, as I said the line in a totally different context. Mch luv and wshs to you always. Hoping to seeing you soon.”
