Though the inspiring couple has been married for over three decades, their path to their wedding wasn’t so easy. Recently, Gauri Khan opened up about her marriage to Shah Rukh Khan. She recalled the time when the couple struggled to win over her parents to the idea of their marriage.
As SRK was a Muslim and was trying hard to build a career as an actor, Gauri Khan’s parents weren’t pleased about their daughter getting married to SRK.
Recalling this special incident from the past, Gauri spoke during the 2008 episode of First Ladies, which Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla hosted. During the interview, she shared, they were quite young when they made the decision to get married. However, it was a challenging situation for her parents to come to terms with the idea of her marrying someone who belonged to a different religion and was also an actor.
Additionally, she mentioned that to make her parents feel more comfortable, they changed Shah Rukh’s name to Abhinav, so that he would appear to be a Hindu.
She further added, “We were so young and then to take a decision to get married and to a person who is going to join films, and being from a different religion.”Gauri added, “We changed his name to Abhinav, so they feel he is a Hindu boy, but that was really silly and very childish.” Gauri also mentioned that celebrating festivals of both faiths was a wonderful experience for their children. She said that it was a good balance for them.
