Bollywood has been struggling for the past few years. Covid forced Bollywood to delay all major releases, and in 2022 when movies started releasing – the response has not been great. Only 3 movies of the last 20 major Bollywood releases can be called Box-office successes. With 2 major releases on 20th May – Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Kangana Ranaut’s Dhaakad, Bollywood was looking to make a comeback.
But it seems only Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has been able to pass the test. With a decent advance booking, the film has had a good opening of Rs 14 crore on Day-1. In comparison, Kangana’s Dhaakad has supposedly managed to garner under Rs 1 crore on Day-1.
While Kangana was seen heavily promoting her movie, it’s a pity the way the movie has bombed at the box office. Directed by Razy, Dhaakad also stars Arjun Rampal & Divya Dutta, and has been made at a budget of Rs 100 Crore.
In comparison, the sequel to 2007 film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was created with a budget of Rs 75 Crores. The movie has been directed by Anees Bazmee and features Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani, Rajpal Yadav and Tabu in key roles. Given the first day collections, Bollywood is hopeful that the movie might change the direction of the audience rejecting the industry’s creations, and bring them back to theatres.
