Jackie Shroff, one of Bollywood’s most beloved and versatile actors, has been seen carrying a spider plant with him to almost every event he attends. Many fans have wondered about the reason behind this unique accessory, and the answer might surprise you.
Spider plants, also known as Chlorophytum comosum, are known for their air-purifying properties. They are effective at removing toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide from the air. This makes them a popular choice for indoor plants, especially in areas with poor ventilation.
Jackie Shroff, an ardent nature lover, has been a longtime advocate of environmental conservation. He has been actively involved in promoting sustainable living and eco-friendly practices. His passion for nature has led him to carry the spider plant with him, as a symbol of his commitment to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

In an interview, Jackie Shroff revealed that he carries the spider plant with him as a reminder of his connection to nature. He believes that we are all connected to the environment in ways that we often fail to recognize. Carrying the plant with him is a way for him to stay grounded and mindful of the impact of his actions on the environment.
He said, “I didn’t do any favour to the world by planting trees. Everyone’s job is to plant, and apply, if you want to plant a new one, then die by burning. That’s what’s going to happen. You don’t have to think of your child’s child. I’m half in the grave. Others will also come, our pillars will come.”

He once explained that this plant is unique as it removes components like benzene from the air and gives us oxygen in return. “This plant is unique. It cuts away elements like benzene from the air and gives you oxygen in return. Recently, I learnt about this and I felt I should have it around me.”

While describing his unique locket he told TOI, “I planted it in this custom-made pot, which my friend gifted me. I water it every day. I wear it around my neck, but people can keep a bigger-sized plant in their cars and also as decorative pieces in their homes. It’s a lot better than keeping an expensive statue or a piece of art.”
Not only this, on World Environment Day in 2019, he urged his fans to grow plants and said, “Yeh sab bade log yahan aaye hain subah ko yeh batane ki jhaad (plants) lagao. Aap logon ko samajhna chahiye, bheedu. Yeh bolne ki baat thode hi hai? Lagana chahiye jhaad. Apun apne liye nahi, apun apne bachchon ke liye jhaad chhod kar jaane wala hai. Apun toh aadha kabr mein hai. Bindass! Aisa jhaad lagao jo raat ko bhi oxygen de! Neem ka aur peepal ka jhaad lagao, usse daba ke oxygen milta hai, boss!”
