Recently, Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer – Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar – hit the theatres. And, given the success of Ranbir Kapoor’s earlier movies in the rom-com space – Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani to name a few – the movie hype is justified. But, unfortunately, Ranbir’s rom-com failed to live up to the hype!
The much-awaited rom-com opened to mixed reviews. As per Hindustan Times, “Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor’s problematic romcom is a montage of monologues. The funny parts are extremely funny, and the boring parts are intolerably boring in this Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor film directed by Luv Ranjan.” According to a famous critic – Film Companion – “Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor star in romcom ruined by Luv, Sexism, and Dhokha.”
Indian Express called the movie boring! While reviewing the movie, the critic wrote, “The writers of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar clearly didn’t get the memo on brevity being the soul of wit: the film drags on for two hours before it comes to the last twenty minutes, which is when the pace picks up.”
While few called the movie Paisa Vasool, there were some, who pointed out how the movie objectifies women in every disgusted manner! There were a few critics who felt that the movie lacks originality and freshness.
