The highly anticipated mythological drama Adipurush, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, has recently faced another controversy as one of its dialogues has been removed. After Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah threatened to stop the film’s release in Nepal, this action was taken. The dialogue in question, “Sita is the daughter of India,” prompted Mayor Balen to demand a correction regarding Sita’s birthplace.
Adipurush Controversy: ‘Sita Is Daughter Of India’
The controversy surrounding the film Adipurush arises from the mention of Sita as the daughter of India in its trailer. According to the Ramayana, Sita was born in Janakpur, Nepal, where Lord Ram later married her.Â
Mayor Balen Shah took to social media, particularly Facebook, to announce his stance on the matter. He stated that unless the slogan “Janki is the daughter of India” is rectified to reflect the truth not only in Nepal but also in India, no Hindi film will be allowed to be screened in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. A deadline of three days was given to address this issue, emphasizing reverence to Mother Sita.
Adipurush Makers Remove Dialogue After The Backlash
As a result of these developments, Nepal’s Censor Board also withheld permission for the release of Adipurush, citing the same reason related to the controversial dialogue. The trailer of the film had initially sparked controversy by mentioning Sita as the daughter of India, despite her historical connection to Nepal’s Janakpur, where Lord Ram came to marry her. The film was eventually passed by the censor board after the dialogue in question was removed.
