Recently, Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan,’ starring Siddharth Chaturvedi, Gaurav, and Ananya Panday, was released on Netflix. ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ follows three friends in their 20s: Imaad (Siddhant Chaturvedi), Ahana (Ananya Panday), and Neil (Adarsh Gourav) as they search for meaning in the digital age. They rely on each other while navigating the complexities of relationships and self-discovery. Despite the movie’s considerable potential, it fails to leave a lasting impact. Here are the reasons that left us disappointed with this much-hyped movie:
1. Looks Pretty But Feels Hollow
The film often feels artificial, superficial and glossy, lacking any depth. After watching the movie, one doesn’t feel any emotional impact, despite its powerful plot. The disappointment arises from its treatment of such a complex plot with excessive simplicity, rendering it visually appealing but emotionally hollow.
2. Siddharth’s Unimpressive Portrayal
Regarding acting, while Adarsh Gourav delivers an impressive performance, Siddhant Chaturvedi’s portrayal of Imaad, an aspiring stand-up comedian, is disappointing. Most of Imaad’s stand-up routines lack humor, leaving the audience unimpressed. Better comic writing could have made his character more believable.
3. Weak Script
The movie’s main issue lies in its weak script. Its simplicity and straightforwardness make it feel dragged and a waste of time. It fails to comprehensively address the conflicts and struggles of its main characters. The shallow critique of influencer culture, focused on ‘followers’ while dismissing their true selves, only presents a limited view of this complex sociological phenomenon.
4. Zoya & Farhan Akhtar’s Missing Touch
It’s hard to believe that the movie is produced under the banner of Zoya & Farhan Akhtar, known for films like ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ or ‘Luck By Chance’ or ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ lacks the lasting impact expected from their work, fading away quickly after watching, much like Instagram Reels.
5. Failure to Portray Deep Friendship
For a film centered on friendship, the chemistry among the three protagonists feels forced. The movie fails miserably to portray the depth of their friendship, which is supposed to lay the foundation for the main characters as they overcome life’s most challenging obstacles through their friendship.
