‘Dhaakad’ To ‘LSC’, Big-Budget Hindi Movies That Incurred Massive Losses At The Box Office

Bollywood is obsessed with big-budget movies. In recent times, Bollywood has created so many movies on massive budgets. From spending on expensive sets to extravagant clothes, the recent movies were made on insane budgets. But how did these big-budget movies perform at the box office reveal you can’t win audience hearts by casting stars or building massive sets or expensive clothes?

Here are 5 such big-budget movies that spent quite an amount on making the movie but failed to recover the money at the box office. These movies lost a massive amount of money at the BO.

1. Dhaakad

Starring Kangana, this movie is about Avni, a highly trained and deadly field agent. She is assigned to a mission to eliminate Rudraveer, an international human and arms trafficker who has been off the radar for ten years. Though the trailer looked promising, the movie failed to create any ‘dhaakad’ at the box office. Made on the budget of over Rs 85 crores, the movie ended up collecting only Rs 3.77 crores. The movie incurred a loss of over Rs 78 crores.

2. Samrat Prithviraj

One of the biggest movies of 2022 that many had expectations from, Akshay Kumar’s period drama fell flat at the box office. The movie made on a massive budget of over Rs. 200 Crores couldn’t live up to the mark. As per Bollywood Hungama, the movie ended up only making Rs. 90.32 Crores, leading to the massive loss of Rs. 100 Crores.

3. Shamshera

The big-budget film was reportedly made on Rs 150 Crores but only managed to collect Rs 63.58 Crores as per Bollywood Hungama. The debacle also sent shock waves across Bollywood struggling with multiple flops.

4. 83

With talented actors and powerful performances, this movie failed to create magic at the box office. Though the movie received a lot of love on OTT platform, sadly, it failed to get the audience in the theatres. Made on the budget of 270 Crores, the movie managed to earn almost INR 193 Crores (as per Bollywood Hungama), making a loss of around INR 80 Crores.

5. Bombay Velvet

Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, Anurag Kashyap’s super ambitious movie bombed miserably at the box office. With a massive budget of Rs 120 crores, this movie only collected around Rs 43 crores, incurring a massive loss of over Rs 77 crores!

6. Laal Singh Chaddha

The dismal performance of Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has definitely left Bollywood shocked. According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has faced a massive loss of 100 crores and more. Reportedly, the film was made on the budget of Rs 180 crore. The film has turned out to be one of the biggest flops by any of the Khans including Salman and Shah Rukh.
