1. First Collaboration Of Shah Rukh Khan & Rajkumar Hirani

Shah Rukh Khan’s third film of the year is “Dunki,” marking his debut collaboration with renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, celebrated for directing blockbusters like “Munna Bhai MBBS,” “3 Idiots,” “PK,” and “Sanju,” among others. Interestingly, “Dunki” also represents a departure from the norm as it’s the first Rajkumar Hirani film not backed by producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, breaking a long-standing partnership where all of his previous movies were produced by Chopra.

When Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan revealed their collaboration, many fans got excited. But, what left many confused was the title of their project – Dunki. Many wondered – Why the film is titled Dunki? As per many sources, the plot of the movie is based on a term called donkey flight, used by Indian migrants to obtain a tourist visa for a Schengen-zone country in order to enter the UK through the illegal back door route.

While talking about the title Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan revealed “It is actually Donkey, but the way people pronounce in some parts of India it is ‘Dunki’, it is about the people who wants to come back home when they finally gets the calling” He also added “It is a comic film. His (Rajkumar Hirani) films are always a mix of comedy and a lot of emotions, and about the country. So, it is a big journey film, and it goes through different areas around the world and finally comes back home to India.”

3. Dunki Release Date

After the success of Jawan and Pathaan, there were rumors that Dunki’s release would be postponed to next year – 2024. But, fortunately, Shah Rukh Khan refuted all rumors and confirmed that the film will be released around Christmas. As of now, Dunki’s release date is December 22, 2023.

During the success party of Jawan, SRK said, “God has been kind to me this year – first Pathan, then Jawan! Meine kaam nahi kia 3 saal (I didn’t work for three years), I was worried about coming back, but thankfully all went well and I promise Dunki Christmas pe aaigi. Aur har movie jab meri release hoti hai uss din Eid bann hi jaati hai (Whenever my movie comes, Eid is celebrated that day)”

4. Dunki star cast: First collaboration of Taapsee Pannu & SRK

The movie stars the unique Jodi of  Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. This is the first time that Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu will be seen together on the silver screen.

Taapsee told Indian Express, “I feel so happy that this has happened purely on the basis of credentials and talent. Nobody picked up the phone for a recommendation. I got the film only because someone liked what I did.”

About working with SRK, she said, “I have to pinch myself every day to believe that this is happening. I have grown up watching his (Shah Rukh’s) films. For me, Shah Rukh Khan is the introduction to Hindi films. So just standing next to him in a frame is surreal. I just hope I don’t mess it up.”

While sharing the Dunki’s first look on Instagram, Shah Rukh Khan shared “There is nothing more satisfying than completing a shooting schedule as is with Dunki here in Saudi. So I want to thank Raju sir and the rest of the cast for making it look so lovely. Special thanks to the Ministry of Culture and Films here in Saudi for giving us such spectacular locations, amazing arrangements and warm hospitality. So, a very big Shukran (Thank you) to all. 6. Dunki box office clash

Some time back, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was also supposed to be released around the Christmas weekend. However, the makers have now pushed the release to April 10, 2024. While Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal will be released in the first week of December, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathy starrer Merry Christmas’ will be released on Dec 15.
