There is no denying that the past few years have posed significant challenges to the film industry. From several big-budget movies flopping at the box office to audiences rejecting poorly crafted films, the Indian film industry has faced its share of struggles.
Many critics and movie enthusiasts even doubted whether the film industry would ever make a successful comeback. However, recently, the clouds of doubt have dissipated, and a ray of hope has broken through, with the Indian film industry experiencing one of its most successful months in recent memory. With Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawaan” consistently shattering records, three other movies have also enjoyed parallel success in recent months: “Gadar 2,” “OMG 2,” and “Jailer“
“Gadar 2” has crossed the 500 Crores mark, while “Jawan” achieved an impressive 350 Crores in just six days. “Jailer” and “OMG 2” have also enjoyed fantastic business. After a prolonged period of darkness, theaters are once again witnessing historic footfalls, and this resurgence can be attributed to four films: “Gadar 2,” “OMG 2,” “Jailer,” and “Jawan.”
Gadar 2, Jawan, OMG 2, Jailer: The Common FactorÂ
What many have noticed is that these four blockbusters share a common element: a robust portrayal of the father-son relationship. In “Gadar 2,” the story revolves around Tara Singh, who ventures into Pakistan in search of his son and wreaks havoc on the entire Pakistani army.
Set in a small town in Madhya Pradesh, “OMG 2” narrates the tale of Kanti Sharan Mudgal, a devout believer who is compelled to engage in a legal battle against the administration of a well-known school. His aim is to protect his son’s reputation, which has been tarnished due to an alleged ‘indecent’ incident that occurred within the same educational institution.
“Jailer,” starring Rajinikanth, showcases the story of a retired jailer who decides to dismantle an entire crime syndicate after his cop son goes missing.
“Jawan” tells the story of an army veteran who goes missing after a weapon dispute, only to return when his vigilante son is surrounded by bloodthirsty villains.
While it’s true that this theme of the father-son relationship has been explored in previous films, such as Amitabh Bachchan’s “Shakti,” “Sarkar,” “Akhree Rasta,” and many more, it is heartening to see this theme serve as a lifeline for the struggling film industry.
