Indian Women at the Oscar 2023
When Guneet Monga got on stage to accept her Oscar trophy for The Elephant Whisperers, many were extremely happy to see her wearing a pink Banarasi saree. What a proud moment for all as an Indian woman lifts an Oscar trophy in a pink saree on the global stage.
On her win, Guneet Monga said, “This is an incredibly powerful and historical moment. We as two women from India, stood on that global stage making this historical win. I’m so proud of this film, this moment, and proud of my amazing team at Sikhya Entertainment, that an independent production house from India has made history to be the first ever Indian film by an Indian production to win an Oscar…Today I can say, the future for Indian cinema is audacious, the future is here, and not to forget the future is truly female!”
Ram Charan’s wife Upasana also wore an off-white silk saree to the Oscars. Taking to his social media account, Ram Charan shared the couple’s pic from the event.
