How Sarees & Dhotis Ruled Oscars 2023 & Internet Is In Love With These Indian Looks

India won big at the Oscars 2023! While Naatu Naatu from RRR won the Oscar for the best original song, The Elephant Whisperers won an Oscar for the best documentary short subject. Not just the awards, there were many other moments that left the whole country extremely proud. Deepika Padukone presenting at the Oscars to Indian sarees and dhotis ruling the red carpet are just a few moments that left many of us proud.

Yes, you read that right. Sarees and Dhotis ruled the Oscars 2023. From Guneet Monga to Ram Charan, many Indian celebrities proudly wore Indian attire at the event.

When Guneet Monga got on stage to accept her Oscar trophy for The Elephant Whisperers, many were extremely happy to see her wearing a pink Banarasi saree. What a proud moment for all as an Indian woman lifts an Oscar trophy in a pink saree on the global stage.

On her win, Guneet Monga said, “This is an incredibly powerful and historical moment. We as two women from India, stood on that global stage making this historical win. I’m so proud of this film, this moment, and proud of my amazing team at Sikhya Entertainment, that an independent production house from India has made history to be the first ever Indian film by an Indian production to win an Oscar…Today I can say, the future for Indian cinema is audacious, the future is here, and not to forget the future is truly female!”

Ram Charan’s wife Upasana also wore an off-white silk saree to the Oscars. Taking to his social media account, Ram Charan shared the couple’s pic from the event.

Charan said: “She (Upasana) is six months pregnant as well; I think the baby is already bringing us so much luck… from the Golden Globes to standing here!”

Even  SS Rajamouli’s wife Rama Rajamouli also wore a beautiful saree at the event. She celebrated team RRR as Naatu Naatu won the Oscar for the best original song.

Not just women, even men don ethnic wear too. Both RRR actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR wore black Bandhgala ethnic velvet outfits. And, SS Rajamouli wore a kurta and a Dhoti.
