The Bollywood film industry has shamelessly resorted to the objectification of women in its pursuit of box-office success. With the terms like “Patakha,” “Phuljhari,” and “Tandoori Murgi”, Bollywood has promoted this damaging trend for quite some time now. This practice has been so prevalent that even the United Nations has recognized the Indian film industry as a top offender in the objectification of women.
Sadly, this pattern continues with the release of Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, which features the objectification of Shraddha for the sake of the box-office collection. However, there is hope as many people are now speaking out against the movie’s makers. Numerous netizens have come forward to express their disappointment with the objectification of the actress in this new romantic comedy.
The whole discussion started when a user shared a clip from the song – ‘Maine Pee Rakhi Hai’. Netizens didn’t only find the lyrics of the song objectionable but also Shraddha’s provocative steps and her skimpy outfit.
Many netizens shared how not only the song but the whole movie objectifies women. One user wrote, “Such a weird skimpy outfit for Shraddha. Am i the only one who feels she’s objectified in all her recent songs?” Another user mentioned, “The entire dress has been designed to objectify lol. The color is selected to give an illusion of being naked.”
Someone wrote, “It just feels so male gazy to see her like that. Plus even the dance moves are quite provocative.” Another user mentioned, “Forget songs. Wife and I encountered the trailer for TJMM when we went to see Pathan and about half a minute into it she started counting the bikinis Shraddha wore in it. Out of 16-odd outfits that point onward, only 2 were not bikinis or didn’t have bikini-like tops.”
