Super-successful actor Govinda kickstarted his Bollywood journey with Love ’86, and boy, he delivered one action-packed hit after another! The ’90s saw him transform into the comedy king, blessing us with unforgettable films like Aankhen, Shola Aur Shabnam, Coolie No 1, Raja Babu, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Dulhe Raja, and the list goes on.
However, fast forward to the 2000s, and it’s like the wind got knocked out of his sails. And, if you look today, the once beloved Bollywood maestro seems like out of opportunities. In the times when his peers are working on great projects, he seems to have taken a backseat, making cameo appearances on reality shows and dropping those cringe-worthy singles under his music label, Govinda Royalles.
Now, here’s the burning question on everyone’s minds – why isn’t Govinda gracing our screens? Why Govinda is not working on projects unlike his peers? And, as quoted by some reports – Are the big shots in Bollywood responsible for his not-so-great phase?
Well, according to the action director and Mela actor Tinu Verma, the blame game might need a little introspection. In a recent chat with Bollywood Thikana, Tinu spilled the beans, and if he’s to be believed, Govinda might be behind his own downfall.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, Tinu was asked about his take on Govinda & responded, “Kaam pe nahin aata hai tab tak kaam chor, jab kaam pe aata hai, he is the best. (He is often late to the work but when he finally reaches sets, he is the best),”
He further added, “Woh aadmi Bade Miyan Chote Miyan mein Amit ji ko bhaari pad gaya tha. He is so good, he is so talented. But, us insaan ne time ki kadar nahin ki aaj time ne uski kadar chod di. Log pair pe kulhadi maarte hain, usne gardan maar di kulhadi pe. (He overshadowed Amitabh Bachchan in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. He is so good and talented. But his lack of discipline led to his downfall.)”
Tinu Verma spilled the beans on a shocking incident during the shoot of Govinda’s movie “Achanak” with Manisha Koirala. Govinda had a habit of keeping everyone waiting, especially during this shoot. For four days straight, he delayed a crucial shot they had to film in the middle of the sea with Manisha. Govinda even took a hotel closer to the shoot location but didn’t turn up.
After waiting nearly 10 hours, the crew decided to pack up. On their way back, they found a huge crowd near Wilson College in Mumbai. Curiosity kicked in, and Tinu went to check it out, only to find Govinda shooting a dance scene for a completely different movie.
Tinu continued, “Woh din mein teen shooting rakhta tha. Do mein pahunchta tha, ek mein nahin. Aur woh ek hum they. (He’d overpromise to the filmmakers but would often fail to reach one of the films’ sets.)”
He added, “Yeh fact hai. Yeh Chichi bhaiya hain. Itna talented. One of the best dancers, actors, and performers, sitting at home. Kaam ki pooja nahin ki. Aaj wohi Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Chote Miyan ghar pe, Bade Miyan Kaun Banega Crorepati mein lage hain. Aaj bhi bhaag ke aate hain, bhaag ke jaate hain. Isko bolte hain. Yeh hota hai waqt ka takaza, yeh hota hai time ki respect aur yeh hota hai paise ki kadr. (It’s a fact. That’s Govinda for you. He is so talented and is one of the best actors, dancers and performers and yet he is sitting at home. Today Chote Miyan (Govinda) is sitting at home and Bade Miyan (Amitabh Bachchan) is the busiest because he was disciplined and valued time and money.)”
