Set in 1952, the story centers on Gotya, a young Brahmin who becomes the vengeful spirit Munjya after a failed attempt to poison Munni, the woman he loves. Munjya haunts a peepal tree in Konkan, and years later, Bittu, a timid hairdresser haunted by nightmares of the tree, becomes possessed by Munjya. Munjya’s goal is to marry and sacrifice Bela, but with help from his friend Spielberg and an exorcist, Bittu ultimately defeats Munjya by burning the tree—though remnants of the spirit remaining
