Recently, Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar hit the theatres. And, given the success of Ranbir Kapoor’s earlier movies in the rom-com space – Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani to name a few – the movie hype is justified. But, the question is did Ranbir’s rom-com manage to live up to the hype?
No one can deny that ‘Tu Jhooti Main Makkar’ is definitely a bit more progressive than Luv Ranjan’s earlier misogynistic movies. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’ is a modern take on relationships. The movie tries to handle topics like Mumma’s/Dadi’s boys, independent career-oriented women who would choose to work after marriage, and much more.
Given the hype, the much-awaited rom-com has opened to mixed reviews. From calling it super boring to super stretched to a blockbuster, fans, and critics have taken to social media to share their mixed reviews.
As per Hindustan Times, “Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor’s problematic romcom is a montage of monologues…The funny parts are extremely funny, and the boring parts are intolerably boring in this Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor film directed by Luv Ranjan.” According to a famous critic – Film Companion – “Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor star in romcom ruined by Luv, Sexism, and Dhokha.”
Indian Express called the movie boring! While reviewing the movie, the critic wrote, “The writers of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar clearly didn’t get the memo on brevity being the soul of wit: the film drags on for two hours before it comes to the last twenty minutes, which is when the pace picks up.”
On one hand, Taran Adarsh has called the movie ‘Winner’ whereas, NDTV, has called Ranbir the sole saving grace of the movie!
“it’s one thing to realise you’re a surrogate, another to realise you’re a surrogate for Kartik Aaryan” Best summary of a disaster – started at ground level & kept sinking with every passing minute, atrocious dialogue & God-awful song. #TuJhoothiMainMakkaar Lauta do OG Ranbir https://t.co/y0J01g6asR
