Bollywood’s superstar-loaded big-budget blockbusters like Akshay Kumar’s 350 Cr movie – ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ and Ajay Devgn’s 100 Cr movie – ‘Maidaan’ are struggling miserably at the box office. Amid such a dark phase, ‘Animal’ maker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has made a statement that has left many surprised.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga is the most controversial director, known for his regressive and misogynistic movies like ‘Animal’ and ‘Kabir Singh’. His latest movie – ‘Animal’, which has been a rollercoaster of applause and controversy, earned over Rs. 900 crores at the global box office.
While many were waiting for the sequel – ‘Animal Park’, it is quite clear now that ‘Animal Park’ will only launch after Sandeep wraps up his latest project ‘Spirit’, starring Prabhas. The movie is set for release in 2025.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga on Prabhas starrer 300 crore Movie ‘Spirit’
Vanga’s latest statement on the opening day collection of his new upcoming movie “Spirit” has left many surprised. He has mentioned that the opening day of the film will be Rs. 150 crore. Yes, you read that right in the times when Bollywood movies are not able to make 150 Crores in their complete run, Sandeep Reddy Vanga mentioned that Prabhas starrer Spirit will make that on the opening day.
For the sake of comparison, on its opening day, Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan, which was made on a budget of 100 crores, collected ₹ 4.5 crore. And, Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which was made on a massive budget of 350 Cr, collected only ₹15.65 crore.
During the discussion with Galatta Plus, Sandeep Reddy Vanga disclosed that the film’s budget would exceed Rs 300 crores. He was questioned about the feasibility of such a high budget for Telugu cinema, especially considering recent Bollywood blockbusters starring superstars struggled to meet box office expectations.
To which he replied, “For Prabhas garu, it’s a valid budget. I think because the kind of budget they are putting, I feel the producer is safe. With Prabhas and my combination along with satellite and digital rights, we can recover our budget there itself.”
He further added, “If everything goes well with the teaser, trailer and songs pre-release and whatever we do to grab the audience’s attention, opening day would be Rs 150 crore. It’s a trade calculation. It should be worldwide or pan-India. Easily it could be Rs 150 crore in one day for a film like this if the material is good.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has faced considerable controversy over his films like “Kabir Singh” and “Animal” for their portrayal of misogynistic and regressive themes. Despite widespread criticism, both movies have emerged as massive blockbusters in Indian cinema, collectively earning more than Rs. 900 crores at the global box office.
