As the anticipation builds for the release of Gadar 2, there are some interview statements featuring Sunny Deol that have ignited a fervor online. Here are some of his old and latest controversial interview statements that made headlines:
1. Sunny Deol On Calling Male Actors Girls Who Shave Off Body Hair
During his latest interview with Aaj Tak, Sunny Deol referred to male actors as “girls” who choose to shave off their body hair. He said, “Mujhe toh badi sharam aati hai jab shave karlete hai apne baal, ladki ban gaya (I feel very shy when they shave their body hair as they look like girls).”Many netizens took to social media and felt that his comments was in poor taste and unnecessary.
2. New Talent Focus On Bodybuilding Not Acting
Sunny Deol further added male actors are now more focused on making six-pack abs by saying, “I don’t understand all these things. We are actors, not bodybuilders. We are here to act, not to do bodybuilding. But, because of that we are getting talents with the mindset, ‘I have built my body, I can now become an actor, I am a dancer, I can be an actor.’”
3. Sunny Deol On Not Working With Yash Chopra Again
As per many reports, Sunny Deol was so miffed when Shah Rukh Khan’s character in ‘Darr’ got more prominence that the actor pledged never to work with Yash Chopra and stopped talking to SRK for 16 years.
In an interview with Filmfare back in 2001 post the success of Gadar, Deol spoke about this unpleasant experience and what unfolded on the sets during the making of Darr. He revealed, “If I were to start my career again, I would avoid a mistake called Darr. The making of the film was the worst experience of my life. I was sick of the manipulations and lies. One day in Switzerland, I was so angry that when I stuffed my hands into the pockets, I ripped the jeans I was wearing.”He added, “I’ll never work with Yash Chopra again. He isn’t a man of his word. I don’t have good memories about him, he betrayed my faith in him.”
4. Sunny Deol On Not Talking To SRK after 16 Years
When asked about not speaking to Shah Rukh Khan for 16 years after Darr, Sunny Deol said: “It’s not that I didn’t talk but I just cut myself off and I anyway don’t socialise much. So we never met, toh baat karne ki baat he nahi hai.”
5. Sunny Deol On Bollywood’s Drug Abuse
In an interview on AajTak’s Seedhi Baat, Sunny was asked about the media coverage around the abuse of drugs in Bollywood. Sunny said, “Sada hua Bollywood nahi hai, sade hue insaan hai. Aur vo kis field me nahi hai, ye bataiye. Businessman ho, sportsman ho, jaha latt lagi hui hu, vo charo taraf hai. Hum glamour vale hai to unhe humare pe ungli uthane maza ata hai (Bollywood is not rotten, people are rotten. And this happens in every field. Just because we are from the glamour industry, people point fingers at us).”
6. Sunny Deol On Actors Dancing In Weddings
In an old interview with Filmfare, Deol ‘called out’ fellow actors who perform at weddings. He implied that this practice tarnishes their esteem and image. Many believed he was targeting Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who is a maestro of dance moves at weddings and gets paid a bomb to do so.
Deol’s statement to Filmfare was, ‘You lose dignity when you dance at others’ weddings. Though it has now become fashionable, I believe that one loses self-respect. We are actors, not people doing ‘tamasha’.” He also emphasised on how important it is to maintain your dignity and said, “Only mujrawallis dance at weddings, not actors. I think actors should maintain their dignity. Dancing at a friend’s wedding is okay, but getting paid to dance is cheap. Next, you’ll ask me, Isn’t prostitution better than borrowing money from the market? I don’t agree with this kind of logic.”
Even Shah Rukh Khan did not hold back while responding to this comment back then. In an interview with Lehren, he said, “There is money attached to it because I use that money to make my own films. I don’t have to borrow money to make films. The happiest moment for anyone is marriage, and I love participating in that… Only the richest people in the world can afford me.”
