Success is never permanent. With time, everyone faces highs and lows, and our celebrities are no exception. In recent times, many celebrities who were once hailed as superstars have encountered continuous failures. Whether it’s Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar, many who once enjoyed stardom are now on the verge of losing it. One such celebrity facing a string of failures is Kangana Ranaut.
Unfortunately, things haven’t been going well for Kangana Ranaut at the box office. Her latest release, ‘Tejas,’ struggled to find an audience. After six days of its release, Kangana Ranaut’s latest aerial action thriller has barely crossed the Rs 4 crore mark in India. According to Box Office India records, it is expected to end its lifetime run at just Rs 5 crore.
In contrast, Vikrant Massey’s ’12th Fail,’ released alongside Kangana’s film, is performing much better at the box office, with Vikrant Massey’s movie grossing Rs 11.70 crore in the same time frame. Many believe that it will be difficult for ‘Tejas’ to even cross Rs 10 crore in lifetime collections.
Kangana has delivered a series of flops, which have significantly impacted her stardom. Known for her remarkable performances in films like ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu,’ ‘Tejas’ marks Kangana’s fourth consecutive release that has performed poorly at the box office, failing to cross the 10 crore lifetime collection mark.
In addition to ‘Tejas,’ there have been other disappointments:
Thalaivii
Released in 2021, the J. Jayalalithaa biopic directed by AL Vijay struggled to make an impact at the box office. Its Hindi version earned a mere Rs 1.46 crore during its lifetime run, while the all-India business, including Tamil and Telugu versions, amounted to Rs 4.98 crore. Remarkably, Kangana Ranaut, the film’s lead actress, claimed that the budget of the movie was a staggering Rs 100 crore.
Dhaakad
In 2022, the spy action thriller ‘Dhaakad,’ directed by Razneesh Razy Ghai, faced financial challenges. Despite a reported budget ranging from Rs 85-100 crore, the film proved to be a massive disaster, collecting just Rs 2.58 crore in Hindi. Its global gross stood at Rs 3.77 crore.
Chandramukhi 2
A sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2005 blockbuster ‘Chandramukhi,’ this horror-comedy failed to gain traction in its Hindi version, barely crossing the Rs 1 crore mark, with a final tally of Rs 64 lakh. However, in Tamil, the film capitalized on the franchise’s brand value and Raghava Lawrence’s star power, amassing Rs 51 crore globally, with a significant portion stemming from the Tamil version. The reported budget for the film was between Rs 60-65 crore.
Tejas
Directed by Sarvesh Mevara, ‘Tejas’ had a substantial budget exceeding Rs 60 crore. Despite this, the film is anticipated to conclude its run with domestic earnings of around Rs 5 crore and a worldwide gross of Rs 7 crore.
As Kangana Ranaut continues to face challenges at the box office, her most ambitious project, ‘Emergency,’ is set to be released. Not only does she star as the lead actor, but she is also directing the film based on former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The question remains: Can Kangana end her streak of underperforming movies with ‘Emergency’? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
