Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan stand as two of the most prominent superstars in Indian cinema, often finding themselves compared in terms of box office success and fan base. In a recent interview with Lallantop, lyricist and writer Varun Grover offered a fascinating perspective on the comparison between these two iconic figures. When asked about his interest in collaborating with megastars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, Varun shared his thoughts on the matter.
Varun mentioned that he had the opportunity to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan, having written the exclusive song “Jabra Fan” for the movie “Fan” (2016) and one of the songs, “Chal We Watna,” for “Dunki” (2023). He said, “Mauka milega toh zaroor Shah Rukh saab ke saath toh karenge.
Salman saab jo filmein kar rahe hain pata nahin main apni duniya ko unki duniya se judte hue nahin dekh paata hoon. Jis tarah ki filmein main karna chahta hoon. (If the opportunity arises, I would definitely work with Shah Rukh Khan again. As for Salman Khan, I’m not sure if I can align my creative vision with the kind of films he is currently doing. Our cinematic preferences seem to be quite divergent.”
Further talking about their personalities, Varun said, “Kuch log hote hain jo lagta hai exist karte hain. Shah Rukh Khan exist karte hain. Woh saamne hain. Woh real lagte hain. Salman Khan jo hain woh lagte hain ki screen pe hi hain. Shayad asal zindagi mein ho hi na. Woh AI se banaye hue ek kirdar hain.
Woh saamne dikh jaayein toh shayad bhram tootega. Par tab bhi mere liye mushkil hoga yeh maan na ki yeh insaan screen ke alawa bhi hai. Shah Rukh Khan ki poori personality aapko samajh aati hai, unke itne interviews hain. Salman ke jo interviews hain lagta hai unka hi koi kirdar nikal ke aaya hai film ka wahi interview de raha hai.”
(There are individuals who come across as genuinely authentic, and Shah Rukh Khan falls into that category. He exudes a sense of being a real person. On the other hand, Salman Khan gives off the impression of existing solely within the confines of the silver screen. It’s as if he’s a character generated by artificial intelligence. When you listen to SRK in interviews, you get a glimpse of his true personality. In Salman’s case, it feels like one of his film characters is the one conducting the interview.)”
The interview generated quite a buzz, with many people chiming in with their thoughts. Numerous comments flooded in, reflecting the diverse opinions and reactions sparked by the insightful conversation.
One user commented “Aadmi waqt dekhke vichaar badalta hai…abhi srk ka time hai to sab log accha bolenge…..aur jab tak Salman ki badi hit nhi aati….don’t expect too many positive words from people.” Other user commented “Salman Khan ke bare me zyada mat sochna WO DIL ME AATE HAIN SAMJH NE NAHI . “A third user chimed in, sharing, it’s all about their favourite his favourite is srk he says so if you have any doubts just go and check Instagram who is more famous it’s salman khan. A fourth user expressed Ab toh AI ka zamana hai so salmaan is way ahead of time.
Regarding their recent projects, Salman Khan’s latest film, Tiger 3, didn’t meet expectations at the box office, and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan was a flop. His upcoming movie is Bull, directed by Karan Johar.
On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan has been enjoying success with his last three releases. Dunki was a box office hit, and both Jawan and Pathaan achieved the status of all-time blockbusters. His next project is Sujoy Ghosh’s King.
