We, at IFORHER, is in awe of this gay couple from Santa Fe, Argentina, who has adopted a girl born with HIV. This little angel was reportedly rejected by almost ten families because of her health condition.
Damian Pighin, 42 and Ariel Vijarra, the first openly gay couple that got married in Santa Fe was looking to expand their family when they received a call that changed their life forever. The call was from Olivia’s parents.
And, the couple immediately took the little angel, who was less than a month old, into their family.
Recalling the memorable moment, Vujarra shared:
“As soon as I saw her, I felt that she was part of my life. The connection was immediate. We held her in our arms, gave her the bottle and she looked at us with her eyes open without crying,”
Ariel and Damien work for ‘Acunar Familias’, a non-governmental organization that helps couples to adopt unwanted children. And, when the couple brought Olivia home, she also started responding to her HIV treatment positively.
Though there is still no cure for HIV, Olivia’s medical reports confirm that the virus was no longer detectable in her blood.
But, this is not all.
When a woman came to know about this heroic couple, she requested the couple to adopt her baby girl too. And, hence the family grew by one more in 2015, when the three welcomed Victoria into their lives.
The path chosen by this couple is definitely not an easy one. They have shattered the stereotypes, to walk on the path of love, care & empathy. For choosing the road less traveled we at I FOR HER salute them.
