As per the recent judgment by a Delhi court, showing the middle finger to a woman can land the person in jail.
In Delhi, a woman registered a case against her brother-in-law for gesturing at her with his middle finger and making obscene facial expressions.
Now, the accused faces a maximum of three years of punishment and a fine.
According to TOI, metropolitan magistrate Vasundhara Azad,
“This undeniably amounts to making utterances or gestures intending to insult the modesty of a woman.”
In 2014, the woman filed her complaint that the man flipped her off and passed lewd remarks and even physically harmed her. And, after a thorough investigation, the man was booked for insulting the modesty of a woman.
In 2015, the man pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges. He demanded a trial. His plea mentioned that there was an argument which was the result of a property feud and that the woman had filed false charges against him.
But after a long legal battle, the court found there was no evidence of the property dispute.
