Despite initial reports of a heart attack, her family challenged them and claimed she was a victim of foul play in Goa. The last rites of Sonali Phogat were held in Hissar, Haryana. Many people came to pay their last respects.
In the midst of the grieving crowd, one particular scene that left many tear-eyed was a teenager who carried her mother’s bier on her shoulders.
Showcasing the unparallel resilience and courage, Sonali’s daughter shattered the stereotypes as she carried her mother’s bier on her shoulders. Sonali’s last rites were conducted on Friday at Hisar in Haryana.
Recently, the video of Yashodhara carrying her mother’s bier has gone viral and touched so many hearts across the internet. In the video, Sonali’s daughter could be seen crying inconsolably.
It is quite heart-touching how courageous Yashodhara accompanied her mother on her last journey irrespective of what our regressive society preaches. Yashodhara is the only child of Sonali. In a society, where men are mostly allowed to perform a person’s last rites, it is quite courageous of this teenager to play such an active role in her mother’s last rites.
