In a heart-touching gesture, political leader Hemant Soren, the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand surprised people by asking them to stop greeting him with bouquets. He requested them to send him books instead of flowers.
Soon after winning the state elections Hemant Soren (44) tweeted a photo of the bouquet and shared how failing to handle the flowers given to him upsets him greatly. So instead of sending him bouquets of flowers, he requested people to send him books inscribed with the name of the donor.

He also mentioned, how one day the books gifted to him would find a place in his library and would help many more people to enlighten themselves. He further added:
“Please mention your name in the books presented by you; one day they will form part of a library made by us, and your gifted books will help us all to build up on our knowledge.”
When the Jharkhand Chief Minister shared a photo of the books he had received as “gifts” rather than bouquets, netizens couldn’t stop applauding his progressive thinking. Along with the photo of books, he mentioned:
“No one should stay away from poor and deprived education in Jharkhand, that is my resolve. Thank you kindly to all of you for offering a ‘book’ in place of ‘bouquet’.”
pic.twitter.com/jeh1zZ7moV— Hemant Soren (@HemantSorenJMM) December 28, 2019
Shared by thousands on Twitter, many came forward to applaud such a progressive movement.
https://t.co/SbJAd1pT1p— Manish Sisodia (@msisodia) December 29, 2019

This is not the first time a politician asks for books instead of other gifts. MLA VK Prasanth popularly known as the ‘Mayor Bro’ of Kerala won the Vattiyoorkkav assembly by-poll in October this year. He won the hearts of netizens with his call to give him books instead of flowers.
At IFORHER, we applaud this progressive thought process and hope many more would seek inspiration from it.
