Sudha Murthy & Narayan Murthy’s son-in-law Rishi Sunak has been appointed as United Kingdom’s new finance minister.
Married to Akshanta Murthy, the daughter of Sudha Murthy and Narayan Murthy, Rishi Sunak resides in Hampshire, UK. He is soon expected to move into No. 11 Downing Street, right next to the Prime Minster’s office.
Rishi is replacing Pakistani-origin Sajid Javid, who recently resigned as Chancellor of the Exchequer. He has worked as Javid’s junior – the Chief Secretary to the Treasury. It is a proud moment as Rishi’s position today is the second most crucial government position in the United Kingdom.
Rishi Sunak’s Early Life
Belonging to a Punjabi family, son of a pharmacist mother Usha Sunak and a National Health Service (NHS) general practitioner (GP) father Yashvir Sunak. After earning a degree in Politics, Philosophy, Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford, Rishi also attained an MBA from Stanford University.
Akshata Murthy & Rishi Sunak’s Marriage
It was during his educational stint at Stanford University that he met Akshata Murthy, who was also a student at Stanford University. In August 2009, Rishi married Akshata Murthy.
The wedding hosted by Sudha Murthy & Narayan Murthy emulated their modest and simple living. It surprised many when the prominent Bangalore-based industrialist hosted a simple no tamasha, traditional wedding for their daughter Akshata on August 30th in Bangalore.
After a happy and successful marriage of 10 years, the couple – Akshata & Rishi are blessed with two beautiful daughters.
Rishi Sunak’s Political Career
Since 2015, Rishi has been a part of parliament. Before joining politics, Rishi has worked at Goldman Sachs, as well as a partner at the hedge fund management company – The Children’s Investment Fund Management.
In 2016, he supported Brexit and got again elected as MP in 2017. He acted as Parliament Undersecretary for Local Government between January 2018 to June 2019. In the 2019 general elections, he was again elected with an increased majority of 47.2%.
