Along with parents, one person who plays a critical role in our future success is our teachers. While there are some teachers, who leave no stone unturned in building kids with their positivity and encouragement, there are some who shatter them with their negativity and shaming tactics.
It is sad how even in 21st century, some teachers still fail to understand how their behavior impacts the impressionable young minds. They still indulge in the abusive behaviors like scolding, shaming or punishing as they still regard these negative behaviors as motivators. Dear teachers, shaming or scolding isn’t motivating; Kindness and inspiration are.
Recently, a student took to Twitter to share a screenshot of her conversation with one of her teachers who allegedly shamed and insulted her and announced that she could never make it.
This student concluded the powerful message with “Next time, please remember to be kind towards people. Especially students who seek for you help.”
Two years ago, me and my friend decided to text our teacher the day our results come out 😀 pic.twitter.com/iDUd6XyhZG

Rather than seeking apology for underestimating her student, this teacher went ahead to take credit of this student’s success.

Several people could relate to this teacher’s abusive behavior and shared their personal childhood stories:
When I was 5 yrs old I couldn’t speak. Due to a health condition for 3 yrs. I was beaten in my convent school everyday because they thought I’m shy and wouldn’t read. I became a teacher myself so children who were like me would never feel disgraced and humiliated. I understand ❤️

But my childhood trauma keeps on coming in-between my present life.
This makes me want to text my school teachers who said I wouldn’t make it past 10th class. And now I’m in the top government Medical college

There was one teacher who did not believed in me the whole class used to think I am dumb but little they know I not even topped in that particular class but even surpassed the other class sections . Its one of the moment I want to live again
And thankfully professors in college didn’t mind my nervous stutter during the first semester.. They were actually supportive… Helped alot with my confidence and speaking.

I was bullied by my class fellows and degraded by my teachers throughout school and college, never knowing I was the one to serve my country.

They look at me and I look at the unspoken disbelief and stun in their eyes
It’s my kinda revenge, getting over it.
once I got into a university I’ll send a message like this to one of my teacher too 👍

My physics teacher in class 11 and 12 always used to degrade me because I was not from English medium. He said I will not clear even a single subject. I have cleared with decent score and I stood infront of him. He never even looked at my face 🤣

I got my draft in, once I get my PhD it’s over for all those teachers who said it’d be a miracle if I can get an offer…
The memory is still fresh and I ain’t forget the ridicules and backhand comments
It is quite sad how we justify abusive behavior in name of motivation. Be it teachers or parents, no one has a right to abuse kids to push them to achieve milestones. It is high time that parents and teachers understand that abusive behavior is abuse, not motivation! What do you think about this incident? Tell us in the comments below.
