As the country has confirmed 1200 Coronavirus cases and over 30 deaths, there is no doubt that Coronavirus is taking a much tighter grasp in India.
However, during this tough time, many inspiring heroes are coming forward to protect communities against coronavirus and help the infected get proper medical treatment.
One of the firsts to offer support was Sudha Murthy’s Infosys Foundation. And, now what they are planning to do shows how humanity is the only priority for this foundation.
The CSR arm of Infosys – Infosys Foundation has pledged Rs 100 crore to support the fight against COVID-19 in India. They have already contributed half of 100 crores to the PM Cares Fund.
The remaining sum will be used to expand hospital capacity for treatment of COVID-19 as well as hospital stays for patients across India — especially ones that are belonging to weaker sections of the society.
In addition to the above, they will also provide ventilators, testing kits and personal protective equipment like face shields, protective suits, etc to healthcare workers who’re at risk as they are directly dealing with COVID-19 patients. With the support of various NGOs, they are also looking to provide food and hygiene kits to thousands of people in need.
In a statement, Head of the foundation, Sudha Murthy mentioned:
“These are unprecedented times that require every section of the society to rise up to the challenge. Infosys Foundation has always supported the needs of the country in difficult situations and we will continue to work with governments, non-profits, and healthcare institutions in their fight against this global pandemic.”
She further added,
“All our efforts will be targeted towards ensuring that the relief material reaches the people who need it the most, whether it is a patient who cannot afford treatment, our healthcare personnel, or daily-wage workers whose livelihood has been severely impacted.”
At IFORHER, we are in awe of Sudha Murthy as she has always stood tall for mankind in any extreme situation – be it floods or coronavirus pandemic!
