Despite living in the 21st century, it’s surprising to see that patriarchal wedding traditions and customs are still deeply embedded in our society. While the world is making progress towards gender equality, it’s disheartening to see that some of the regressive wedding practices continue to shape our society’s mindset and behavior towards women.
One such regressive wedding practice is woman leaving her own home and move in with her husband’s family after marriage. This custom has been followed for generations without any questions. But, recently, a woman questioned the unequal treatment of women and men in this custom, pointing out that the man’s family is not expected to make the same sacrifices or undergo the same emotional pain as the woman’s family. Her tweet went viral in no time. Here’s her viral tweet;
If funny how girl leaving her family after marriage is unquestionable, but when it comes to a man leaving his family, all of sudden everyone remember parents sacrifice, they have risen us, responsibilities, gave education etc etc…

Doesn’t girl’s parents too do all these?
Many netizens reacted to this viral tweet and here are some of the best tweets:
Girl needs permission to visit her parents in some cases even to talk to them and in some cases they are treated so horribly but if you use exact words we are besharam

It’s best to find a new house for a few years. Even a rented one is fine. This will help the new family grow strong roots.

Exactly, ladka shadi ke baad dusre ghar mein shift hone ki baat kare to sabse pehla khayal sabke dimag mein yahi aata hai ki jaroor iski biwi ne hi “uksaya” hoga, uksaya my God, wo to khud apna ghar chodke aayi hai

What about our parents
No one thinks about them
People so hurt and offended over something so simple, no concept of natural justice whatsoever. If a daughter needs to live away from parents to start a new family so does a son. Both of them can take care of parents from distance.

Girls will always be judged, namecalled and what not just for asking bare minimum after marriage.

Leave aside everything, she will even be stopped to give money to her parents which she herself earned.
Most funny part is, it is another woman (mother in law) who does it.
Boys having breakdown on this tweet..

I wish you’ll have only a girl child then u will understand the meaning of this tweet…
It’s funnier that even parents themselves don’t give a damn about their girls leaving them forever, but when a boy plans to move out, suddenly they are all vigilant.

That is why a girl should never marry and never leave her parent’s house. In today’s world, a girl can earn money and buy battery operated toys. Hence she does not need a husband. Also, no man needs a wife anymore. AI based no-nonsense female humanoid can replace her.

No guy or guy’s family will ever speak against this tradition. Because ofcourse unko kya taqleef ho rahi hai it’s a win win for them in every way. It’s us girl who have to speak against it again and again, for years, to bring any change.

Here in North East India, we have two tribes, who are matrilineal. In them, man has to leave his parental house and need to come to live with his wife in her parental house. Even properties have also been transferred from mom to the youngest daughter. Very beautiful custom.
