In the past, the Indian Army has given us so many reasons to celebrate their strength, valor, and bravery. And, now they have given us one more reason to be proud of them as they saved the life of a mother and the newborn in extreme conditions.

As Jammu and Kashmir is in the grip of one of the harshest winters in recent times, the roads of the several areas of the valley have been blocked because of heavy snowfall. This has led to many areas cut off from the rest of the world. This is not only making daily life difficult but also causing a lot of problems during medical emergencies.

Recently a video of one such medical emergency has surfaced online. The video, shared by the Indian Army’s XV Corps (Chinar Corps), captured how army personnel and civilians carried a pregnant mother through heavy snowfall in the Kashmir Valley. The woman, Shamima, a resident of Dard Pora village near Tangmarg area of Baramulla in north Kashmir, had developed some pregnancy-related complications and had to be rushed to a hospital.

The pregnant woman’s husband Riyaz Mir sought help from the Army as they were unable to take Shamima to the hospital because of the snow.

As per the Army, almost 100 army personnel and 30 civilians walked through heavy snow, carrying the pregnant woman on a stretcher, for nearly 4 hours. Thanks to these army men and civilians who came forward to help this couple so that they can reach the hospital on time.

In the tweet, the Chinar Corps said that the woman gave birth to a healthy baby and both the mother and child were doing fine.

While applauding the great effort of our army, even our Prime Minister tweeted:

“Our Army is known for its valour and professionalism. It is also respected for its humanitarian spirit. Whenever people have needed help, our Army has risen to the occasion and done everything possible. Proud of our Army. I pray for good health of Shamima and her child,” Modi tweeted.
