At IFORHER, we are dedicated to bringing stories of women, who fought like a true warrior against their circumstances to create a life of dignity for themselves and for their families.
Sumitra is one such Hero! A mother from Jharkhand, she may inspire many women to believe in themselves and their inner strength.
No words can ever express the power, the beauty, and the heroism of a mother’s love. Made of deep devotion, endless sacrifice, and pain, the mother’s love is not only selfless but also eternal. Nothing can destroy it or take it away. As they say – Mother’s love is so powerful that it can move mountains for her kids.
Similar is the story of 63-year-old Sumitra, a mother, who fought against her circumstances to give the best life to her kids.
In 2016, Sumitra, who worked as a peon at Central Coalfields Limited Township in Rajrappa, Jharkhand celebrated her retirement, many felt it was the most special and memorable farewell of their life.
What made it so special was the fact that Sumitra attended her farewell with her three successful children – one a District Collector, another a doctor, and the third a railway engineer.
It was a proud moment not only for Sumitra but also for many moms, who go through many adversities and difficulties in life for their kids. Her son Virendra is a railway engineer, Dhirendra a doctor, and Mahendra the District Collector of Siwan in Bihar. Even after they were settled and were willing to take care of their mother, Sumitra Devi continued her Group-IV job at CCL.
The independent and self-made woman, who started off by cleaning the streets 30 years ago, wanted to make it on her own till the very end and retire as a proud woman.
As per Financial Express, Sumitra’s son shared how their mother struggled with tough times but never gave up. Applauding her constant sacrifices, one of her son, Mahendra Kumar said,
“No job is difficult in life. Everything becomes possible with honest hard work. My mother and we have seen tough times in our lives, yet she never let us feel broken or disheartened. I am proud that we all lived up to her hard work and expectations.”
After hearing the words of affection and gratitude, this mother couldn’t hold back her tears of joy. According to a report by India Times, the proud mother introduced her sons to her superiors, saying:
“Sahib, for 30 years I cleaned the streets of this colony but my children are Sahibs like you.”
It is quite inspiring how Sumitra never let her life conditions break her spirit to give the best to her kids.
Like Sumitra, another mother would get up at 3 am in the morning to roll up to 200kg chapatis (i.e. 8600 medium-sized Rotis) to fuel her son’s IPS dreams.
After listening to these inspiring stories, no one can say that women are any less courageous or stronger than men. (Also Read: Women Are More Courageous Than Men: Sudha Murty’s Post Is For Every Woman Fighting For Herself)
How these women left no stone unturned in making their sons believe in their dreams is quite inspiring. We hope these role models inspire every struggling parent, who is striving hard to support their kids’ dream, to not give up!
