‘Dear Mr. Player, Aaj Mein Karke Aayi. Not Sex’ – Priya Malik’s Viral Poem To Tell Hardik How To Respect Women

by IForHer Team
January 18, 2024

When Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul appeared on the Koffee With Karan, they hardly had an idea that their misogynist toxic comments would earn them the title of  “Sexist Jerks” rather than “Super Cool Heroes”.

On the show, when Hardik Pandya made sexist comments like-

“When I lost my virginity, I came home and said, ‘Main karke aya hai Aaj’ (I had sex today)”,

People across their television screens were appalled by their brazen misogyny and tone-deaf chauvinism.

After netizens criticized the players for their irresponsible comments, BCCI banned Hardik Pandya & KL Rahul for a match against Australia. Additionally, Hotsar also pulled down the KWK Episode.

But, many of us are still wondering how many youngsters like Hardik and Rahul grow up believing that being a misogynist is cool and its fine to be sexist.

Recently, Priya Malik, who is ex Bigg Boss contestant and known for her poetry, shared a powerful poem to send a lesson on respect and gender sensitivity. In approximately 2.5 minutes video titled “Dear Mister Player”, Priya tried to school Hardik on how to respect women!

Referring to Hardik’s comment, “aaj mein karke aya (sex)”, Priya starts the powerful poem with:

“Dear Mr. Player, aaj mein karke aayi. No, not sex.

But a lesson on respect, gender sensitivity and sexism which is available to you for free”.

Here’s the complete poem:

Dear Mr. Player, aaj mein karke aayi. No, not sex.

But a lesson on respect, gender sensitivity and sexism which is available to you for free.

To help you understand that there is nothing #cool about rampant misogyny

To help you understand that being a man has nothing to do with crass behaviour

And, that boys manning up are all about kindness, compassion and candour

Your “score” on the field or off it is not measured by “yeh, yeh, aur yeh”

But by the way you enthuse and inspire the youth of today

We don’t want our sons to come home and for us to go “we’re proud of you beta” when they objectify women

Instead we want to teach them how to transition from being young boys into gentlemen

Cricket is after all called a gentlemen’s game

Gentlemen who make the country proud and don’t bring it any shame

I don’t want to ask you if you would behave the same way if these women were your mother, sister or daughter

Becayse we don’t need to be related to you by blood for you to respect our gender

I am sure even your teammates would also say a vote of thanks

Because bando ko dhappad karke dene ka doesn’t make it normal just because you like to spank

You left us stumped by not understanding that a boundary is not just defined as the rope around a pitch

But also as the limit; the edge; te level of character that you cannot just switch

The only think you need to change is the way you think

Because it’s neither cool nor stylish to act the way you do

So, dear Mr. Player, apni soch badlo, apna style badlo

And get this lesson tattooed in permanent ink

So before I leave I firmly believe that you don’t know my name

because you must be too busy concentrating on my movement

My name is every woman who decides for herself

and why you can’t take home just based on what you call your “talent”

Howzzzat?

The video is going viral on social media for all the right reasons. People are sharing it with love and praising words for Priya Malik.

If you also love it, please share it with more and more people.

Because we want to let our boys know that there is nothing #cool about rampant misogyny! Rather, we want our #Boys to #ManUp!
