While our parents give up everything to offer the most beautiful life to us, most of us hardly show the courage to offer back the same to them.
We might have strong reasons not to be with our parents or to look after them but the story of this 10-year-old will definitely make you wonder if you have tried hard enough to offer the best self to your parents.
Hailed as a role model for her dedication, a 10-year-old girl from China has helped her mother to re-learn how to speak, read and write after she suffered a brain hemorrhage.
As per South China Morning Post, Cai Chengcheng was only 6 years old when her mother Chen Li suffered a brain hemorrhage. After the hemorrhage, her mother encountered severe memory loss and was left with the intelligence of a child.
Cai quoted:
“Before, Mama was the one [who] taught me how to read, now it is my turn to teach her how to read. I paired the words I wanted to teach Mama with animals and foods I liked, to make it more interesting for her.”
For the last 4 years, Cai has been using objects and flash-cards to help her mother in the learning process. When she wants to teach her mother the word – Apple, she gives her an apple to taste or let her hold a rabbit for the word “rabbit”
Cai recalled about the day her mother returned from the hospital:
“Mama was in a wheelchair, her left eye looked normal but her right eye was rolling backwards, as if she couldn’t see anything. She recognized that I was Chengcheng, but could not call me by my name.”
As her father, Cai Yong works at the family’s small shop to earn the money to pay the medical expenses and her brother has started high school and is busy with his studies, Cai decided to bear this responsibility on her own shoulders.
Cai further added:
“Mama has high blood pressure and during her recovery period she had to continue taking medication. If nobody reminded her, she would have forgotten.”
Cai’s dedication has paid off as slowly her mother is able to partially recover the movements. She not only performs small tasks but also helps in running the family shop. Though there is still a long way to go for a full recovery.
In order to promote the spread of national virtues, the Chinese government often recognizes the individuals demonstrating the filial piety. And Cai has been awarded by the the local government and the state media.
