Fighting depression is never easy. But, sometimes understanding the depression struggle of your loved ones could be equally challenging.
Hence, when Alia Bhatt opened up about her guilt of not being able to understand her sister’s struggle with depression, many of us could feel her pain.
Alia Bhatt’s sister and author Shaheen recently opened up about her mental health in depth, a few days ago. She spoke about suffering from depression since she was 12-years-old. She further shared how she faced the dark phase of her life and contemplated suicide on multiple occasions.
Unlike many others who battle with depression alone, Shaheen chose to share her battle and experiences with the world to break the stereotypes. Along with many who applauded the courage of Shaheen to speak about depression, Alia Bhatt too shared how moved and proud she was to watch her sister opening up about a battle which many would often hesitate to talk about.
But, Alia also shared how she feels guilty for being unable to understand Shaheen’s battle with depression.
“I felt terrible as a sister. I didn’t put myself out there enough to understand her.”
She burst into tears and continued to say,
“I have only believed that she is the most brilliant person in my family. To some extent, she has never believed that about her own self but that always broke my heart. I was sensitive but I feel guilty for not understanding as much as I should have.”
Depression often leaves not only the victim but also their families confused and lost. If you know of someone who is battling with depression, we request you to stay calm and lend your support to those in pain without any ifs and buts.
