All love stories are special. But some are more special than others.
One such story is of the army officer Sahil and his wife. This love story has so many beautiful things that you couldn’t stop yourself from falling in love with this couple – from dating each other in school to breaking up to falling in love to managing a long-distance relationship to a beautiful proposal!
While sharing the beautiful love story with HoB, this couple mentioned how they met during school:
“Sahil and I were bench partners in 7th grade. In the 10th grade, he asked me to be his girlfriend. My response was, ‘Thoda time do mujhe.’ Truth be told, I liked him, but it felt sudden. So I took a month to think it through before saying yes. But that ‘relationship’ of ours lasted a total of 6 months. Our future plans were different and we didn’t want to tie each other down.”
But as they say, some things are meant to happen. So was this beautiful love story. Further sharing how they met after 7 years and found themselves, once again, attracted to each other:
“I moved to Delhi and he went on to become an army officer. I would hear about him through common friends, but that was about it… until we met at a reunion.I was seeing him after 7 years and there was an instant attraction. We were inseparable throughout the evening and by the end of the night, he asked me out again. Leaving me surprised, again.
But this time, I was even more cautious of my heart and told him upfront that I had abandonment issues and wasn’t looking for anything casual. He looked at me and asked, ‘Who said anything about casual? So we started dating in January; he had to leave for his training in July. Those 6 months were great, but I knew there was a deadline looming over us. I’d ask him–‘How will this no contact thing work?’ He’d just smile and say, ‘It’s you and me; you’re my priority.’”
As they say, true love shines even brighter during the tough phase. So, while this couple parted physically, their hearts came even closer:
“But before I knew it, I was at the airport, bidding my hardest goodbye. I didn’t know when I would see him or speak to him next. His call came 5 days later; he’d walked 5 KMs to speak to me and although the call lasted only 5 minutes, his, ‘I’m right here.’ made everything better.
The communication was erratic. Sometimes we’d speak for 2 days in a row, sometimes we’d go weeks with no contact. A breather came 6 months later when we went on a road trip to Goa. Walking on the beach, watching the sun go down in silence… I knew in that moment that I’d wait for however long it took to spend even a few minutes together.
Soon after, he invited me for a ball night before the passing parade. I met his friends–it made me feel like I was a part of his world. Seeing him up there, being felicitated, made my heart swell with pride. And for the brief moment we locked eyes, I felt so in love with him. He then got posted to Amritsar and then in Pune. I hated the distance.”
And, then the surreal moment happened.
“So when he came back home during the lockdown, I planned a romantic evening with friends and family, went down on my knees and asked my 7th grade bench partner to become my partner for life! It was the most surreal moment. Still, I fear for him, for us, but his honesty is reassuring, ‘Mere paas zyada time nahi hoga. But jitna hoga, woh tera hoga.’”
In the closing remark, the woman shared the most inspiring words that show the strength of every army wife:
“So yes, it’s tough being an army officer’s wife and I know the road ahead won’t be easy, but I’m happy he chose me to come home to, after serving his one true love– India.”
At IFORHER, we wish the couple all the best for the future endeavor and hope they will keep fighting for their love till eternity.
