Even in the 21st century, it is sad to see how our patriarchal society doesn’t expect the couple to walk along with each other. It still expects the husband to lead and wife to be led. But the good news is that India is changing.
Though we say men and women are equal in marriage but are they?
If yes, then why our society always expects the husband to be professionally more successful than their wives? Why the society labels a husband as disgraceful and disrespectful if he chooses to stay at home? Why women who are equally ambitious as that of their husbands are termed as bad wives or mothers?
Thankfully this rudimentary thought process is being challenged by new-age couples, who are leading this change.
And, at IFORHER, we are celebrating one such inspiring story, where the couple didn’t bind themselves to any gender-based rudimentary thought-process. In an inspiring incident, an IPS wife will be the boss of her IPS husband.
As per the recent report, post commissionerate system in Gautam Budhh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, a coincidence has surprised everyone. An IPS wife will be the boss of her IPS husband.
The IPS officer, Vrinda Shukla, was last posted at police headquarters in Lucknow. She has now been moved to Noida as Deputy Commissioner of Police after the commissionerate was formed. And, her husband Ankur Aggrawal, who was posted here as SP (city), will serve as an additional police commissioner under his wife.
This IPS couple is a role model for many new generation couples, who want to build their marriage as equals. They have shown the society how true marriage is based on the foundational values of love, support, and respect.
Belonging to Haryana, the inspiring couple were childhood neighbors in Ambala and went to the same Jesus and Mary School. Sharing similar professional interests, Vrinda Shukla became a 2014 batch IPS officer of Nagaland cadre and is two years senior to her husband Ankur Aggrawal, who is a Bihar cadre IPS officer of 2016 batch.
After becoming IPS officers, their childhood love for each other culminated in marriage in February 2019 after a long courtship.
Alok Singh, the new commissioner of Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), has posted Vrinda Shukla as the DCP of the women’s unit of 400 police personnel, working for the safety of women.
We are not only proud of Vrinda for her exemplary success in a professional career but also proud of her husband, Ankur Aggrawal. The couple is showing us how real marriage is all about supporting each other to fulfill both personal and professional aspirations.
At IFORHER, we hope our society would learn from such positive & inspiring stories that in a marriage love and respect matters, not the gender!
