Just like all the families, Rahman’s mother was also keen to find a bride for his son. Rahman was very sure in his mind about the girl he wanted to marry. He asked his mother to look for 3 qualities in a prospective bride – She should be well educated. She should be beautiful. She should be humble.
It was not difficult for his mother to find the first two qualities but, getting the third quality was a daunting task. Once Rahman’s mother noticed a lovely young girl at a mosque engrossed in prayer. She found out her name to be Meher and went to meet her father. After she met Meher’s father, she learned that Meher has an elder sister Saira and their mother was keen on marrying Saira, an elder daughter first, before the younger one.
When Rahman’s mother met Saira Banu, she found her to be a perfect match for Rahman. Saira Banu had all the qualities Rahman had desired. Saira Banu and A.R. Rahman tied the knot and, from then both of them have been the perfect partner for each other. Their bond and connection have been super strong all these years.
Saira, who came out to be the perfect match for Rahman scored full on all his counts. “We had a conversation before marriage, otherwise we would have separated long back. That was my orientation to her. I had told her, if we have planned dinner and a song comes up, we will have to ditch the dinner.”
Rahman has always been transparent about his work commitments and, his wife has always been that supportive partner. At the time of marriage, Rehman was 27 and, Saira was 21, Ever since, their love has only grown fonder and, they are giving relationship goals to everyone.
A.R.Rahman‘s wife had once quoted that, “I miss him terribly when he’s away.” That shows they are head over heels in love with each other. They have never projected their love in front of the media. Before marrying Rahman, Saira was a big fan of his songs, and “Urvashi Urvashi” was her favorite song. Saira is fond of perfumes and, she is a bubbly person who loves peppy music. During one of his interviews, Rahman shared that making reality film Le Musk (2017) was his wife Saira Banu’s idea.
A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu are proud parents of three children. Two daughters and a son. Their eldest daughter Khatija Rahaman is a musician and, their son A.R. Ameen is a playback singer. Their youngest daughter is Rahima Rahman.
