I knew it way back then and I’m absolutely convinced of it today — you’re one of a kind, @MichelleObama. Happy Birthday!

This power couple was not very popular in their early days. But slowly and gradually, supporting each other at every step, they created a place in history!

While Barack became one of the most loved presidents of the USA, Michelle became the Vice President for Community and External Affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals.

Their Amazing Journey

It all started in 1989 when Michelle & Obama were studying law. Michelle was assigned the task of mentoring Obama at the Sidley & Austin Law firm, Chicago. She was working as an advisor while Obama was a student.

Obama fell in love with Michelle at first sight. He expressed his emotions as ~

“I remember being struck by how tall and beautiful she was…she, I have since learned, was pleasantly surprised to see that my nose and ears weren’t quite as enormous as they looked in the photo I’d submitted for the firm directory.”

They had their first date after a month. They first had their lunch at the Art Institute of Chicago, went for a stroll, and then watched the Spike Lee film, ‘Do The Right Thing.’ The date ended with an ice-cream and their first kiss. Michelle was impressed with Obama and expressed her date as~

“He showed all his side – he was hip, cutting edge, cultural, sensitive. The fountain- nice touch. The walk – patient.”

Don’t you think this date just sounds perfect – simple yet so special?

Slowly and gradually their relationship got more serious, intense, full of gratitude, love, and respect.

One night when the couple was celebrating the success of Obama’s clearing his Bar exam, he came up with something romantic. He ordered dessert and asked the waiter to place a ring beside the dessert and proposed Michelle. For Michelle, it just came out of the syllabus!

You’re not only my wife and the mother of my children, you’re my best friend. I love your strength, your grace, and your determination. And I love you more each day. Happy Birthday, @MichelleObama

Michelle Obama and Barack Obama got engaged in 1991 and married a year later. And, after 7 years of their happy married life, their first child Malia Ann Obama was born on July 4, 1998. Three years later, they were blessed with their second girl child, Natasha, to which Obama said~

“The great thing about the girls is they’ve got a wonderful role model in their mom….they’ve seen how Michelle and I interact- not only the love but also the respect that I show to their mom.

So I think they have pretty high expectations about how relationships should be, and that gives me some confidence about the future.”

And, then came the year 2004 that transformed this family’s life.

2004: The Year Of Transformation

Obama was elected to the US Senate, and in 2008 he became the 44th President of the USA. From thereon this lovable couple became the power couple and set an example of love, support, and unity for the rest of us.

As I reflect on election night ten years ago today, I can’t help but think about where my political career started. I wasn’t running for office. I was running a voter-registration drive in Chicago. What I learned then — and what would become the premise of my 2008 campaign — was that you couldn’t just fight for existing votes. You had to reach out to all of these people who had lost faith and lost trust, and get them off the sidelines. So during our first campaign, when I started seeing all these stories about record turnout in communities all over the country — from young people in line for hours in Iowa to elderly folks in lawn chairs down in Florida — I knew that we had shown what is possible when everybody decides to participate. And that, in and of itself, gave people a sense of their own power — their own agency in the kind of country we want to leave for our kids. When more people get off the sidelines and decide to participate, our country becomes a little more representative of its people — of everyone’s collective decision. And American politics can change as a result. So on Election Day this Tuesday, I’m not just asking you to vote. I’m asking you to really show up once again. Talk with your friends, convince some new voters, and get them out to vote because then something powerful happens. Change happens. Hope happens. And with each new step we take in the direction of fairness, and justice, and equality, and opportunity, hope spreads.

Each one us knows how Michelle supported Barack throughout his journey as a President. Obama talks about the support he received from Michelle ~

“Obviously I couldn’t have done anything that I’ve done without Michelle…..not only has she been a great first lady, she is just my rock. I count on her in so many ways every single day.”

After the end of Obama’s tenure as a President, they said goodbye to the White House and went back to their life happily.
