Neena Gupta has been a role model for so many young girls and women across the country. From playing roles that question the stereotypes to having a baby out of wedlock, Neena Gupta has left no chance to live life on her own terms.
But, behind this strong and independent woman, there is a story of harsh circumstances. Neena Gupta’s childhood wasn’t easy. While speaking about her parents, Filmfare reports that Neena’s autobiography reveals her father had two full families. And throughout his life, he juggled his time between the two. He’d reportedly spend the night with the other family and even divide vacation days between the two.
ETimes reports her take on holy matrimony, “I haven’t seen a happy marriage around me so I don’t know. It’s always full of compromises. It takes courage to end a marriage, no doubt about it. But it is also a big trauma because once two people unite, their whole existence, their families are held together by a thread. When this thread starts to weaken, everyone suffers. Is it worth staying in this mess, to keep up appearances?”
In her autobiography – “Sach Kahun To”, she wrote of how her mother tried to keep all of this inside and she could only write about it in her book because her father and brother are no more. She said, “My mother killed herself trying to hide what my father did to her. I think that is why I have written this book when my father, mother, brother, and bhabhi (sister-in-law) are no more. I don’t think I‘d have written it if my parents or brother were alive. I think that was also one reason that I could write now.”
At IFORHER, we are in awe of Neena Gupta – who not only endured her pain but also inspired many to walk down on their own path. (You can buy her autobiography at Amazon)
