It’s a tremendous shame Amazon didn’t continue the adventure through season 2 because this one is a joy to watch from beginning to end with its tongue-in-cheek humor and meta-superhero shenanigans. Vikings is a rough-and-tumble period drama akin to Game of Thrones in that it features plenty of bloody fighting but none of the show’s rampant nookie. As well-known Norse character Ragnar Lothbrok, played by Travis Fimmel, the series is about a humble farmer who rises to become a feared warrior. That comes after years of traveling the European seas with his wives and friends in quest of weak nations to plunder.

The series’ humor and, at times, heartbreak are caused by their attempts to remain together after learning they are pregnant. Catastrophe is just hilarious.
