Jason Statham: Early Life
Jason Statham was born on July 26, 1967, to dancer Eileen Yates and a street salesman and lounge singer Barry Statham. Since his childhood, the filmmaker has been a fan of music. Also, he and his elder brother were members of the group that Barry founded. Later, the actor appeared in various music videos for artists like The Shamen, Erasure, and The Beautiful South. He was also interested in sports from a young age.Â
Besides, his father instilled in him a love for martial arts, and his interest in diving emerged after watching competitions. His hard work paid off, and at the age of 12, he was selected for the national British diving team and competed with them. He was a member of the British National Diving Squad for 12 years. Also, he competed in the 10-meter platform and the 3-meter springboard. In the 1992 World Championships, he finished 12th in platform diving. He was also very interested in football and used to play with Vinnie Jones, a footballer who was a childhood buddy of his.
Jason Statham Career
Jason had no intention of pursuing a career in film until he saw a denim advertisement. After reading the script for Guy Ritchie’s film “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” the owner of the brand remembered him as a potential young actor and offered him the opportunity. Instead of screen tests, the director requested that he demonstrate his talents as a salesman by selling jewelry disguised as gold.
Jason stated that the skills he acquired while working on the streets cannot be taught in art school. And this allowed him to act more genuinely and authentically than other applicants. The debut was unexpectedly magnificent, and the actor’s collaboration with the film director continued in many other films such as “Snatch,” “Revolver,” and “Hummingbird” (released in 2013). Statham became a well-known and sought-after film actor as a result of his collaboration with Guy Ritchie. He appeared in various projects with established film performers. These films were fairly popular, but Jason rose to international prominence after playing Frank Martin in the thriller “The Transporter.”
