Gone are the days, when our Indian TV soaps were full of inspirational content. We were lucky to have serial like Udaan, Shanti, Rajani, Aarohan, and many more. But sadly, with time, our Indian TV soaps lost their charm and started promoting a regressive mindset.
Now most of us know how illogical and stupid the narratives are. Speaking up about everything that is wrong with the Indian TV scenario, Diksha Bijlani shares it in her hard-hitting bold, and expressive poem.
In her hard-hitting poem, she talks about how these shows are regressive and misogynistic, to say the least. These shows promote a flawed portrayal of women and encourage the patriarchal thought process!
In her powerful poem, Diksha said:
“Dear Ekta Kapoor, in your stories, women are more capable of coming back to life after dying of grand total of 3 times, than they are of getting a life. There is always that one bad woman in the house. The story isn’t over until one woman hates another.
“Thank you, for planting that the biggest threat to women, is women. That way, we will never stop believing, men were only made to love us.”
Some of the more powerful lines:
“They reinforce the lie by showing it on a screen, inspire more young girls that an ultimate abusive prince is the ultimate Indian dream”
“Your audience loves yielding women, pleading women, wears-make-up-to-cook dinner women…”
Here’s the video of inspiring poem.
It is heartbreaking how even after being surrounded by so many strong inspiring successful women, our Indian TV is filled with women with no spine, leading selfless lives, serving their husband or in-laws at the cost of self-respect.
With the wide range of audiences, TV has an immense power to influence young and old minds. We hope the TV industry would soon realize its responsibility and will give us inspiring content that brings positive change to our society!
