Recently, there has been a lot of debate on the significance of celebrating Women’s day. While many people questioned the need for a day to celebrate Women’s day, as every day belongs to them, others tend to question the hypocrisy of our society in this celebration. In a country, where women are under constant threat of being harassed and abused, what purpose does women’s day serve?
Yesterday, when the news of a 6-YO girl being abused by her own relatives and of a woman being allegedly raped by a policeman for 3 days surfaced, it left us in a state of shock. These news stories are just the reflection of hidden hypocrisy in the celebration of women’s day!
But, it’s not just us who is highly upset by this hypocrisy. Even filmmaker Hansal Mehta is.
In his latest tweet, he shows society the mirror with a powerful tweet:
In his tweet, he writes, “Ho gaya women’s day? Ab? Let’s become our true selves again? 364 days of assholery and one day of hypocrisy.”
Ho gaya women’s day? Ab? Let’s become our true selves again? 364 days of assholery and one day of hypocrisy.

Isn’t he just right? Why we just focus on treating women right just one day. We even fail at treating her right even for a day! In these times when crimes against women are increasing at an exponential rate, rather than focusing on celebrating women for a day, we need to work on creating a society that makes women feel safe, loved, and cared for all 365 days!
