2022 is the year when regional movies dominated the box office. No one can deny that the popularity of Bollywood took a drastic hit in recent times. With a handful of movies doing mediocre business, most Bollywood movies fell flat at the box office. Though The Kashmir Files or Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 or Drishyam 2 managed to capture audience interest, it is majorly the regional movies that ended up becoming a craze for the masses.
With 5 out of the 6 highest-grossing Indian films being from the South, no one can deny that South films dominated the box office in 2022. This is definitely an indication for Bollywood to reinvent or up its game.

One of the most successful movies of 2022, Yash starrer KGF Chapter 2 made a massive box-office collection. The movie made on the budget of INR 100 Crores, managed to collect almost INR 1000 Crores domestically as per Wikipedia.
The movie revolves around how assassin Rocky, who is now the kingpin of the Kolar Gold Fields, protects his supremacy from those who plan to destroy him. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Srinidhi Shetty, and Prakash Raj.
2. RRR (INR 944 Crores)
Shattering all the records of the box-office collection, RRR earned INR 944 Crores domestically against the budget of INR 500 Crores. This super-hit period action drama is set in the 1920s. The movie revolves around two legendary revolutionaries away from their homeland and how they begin fighting for their country. Featuring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, and Shriya Saran, this movie is a must-watch.
3. Kantara (INR 356 Crores)
Kantara turned out to be one of the most successful movies of 2022. Made on a small budget of INR 16 Crores, Kantara managed to earn ~360 Crores INR gross at the domestic box office. Dealing with the critical issue of land politics and man vs forest, the movie revolves around the local folklore and beliefs of the regional demigods. The action thriller has won millions of hearts across the globe.
4. PS:1 (INR 335 Crores)
With Ponniyin Selvan: I, Mani Ratnam has once again left his fans impressed. Shattering many box office records, Ponniyin Selvan: I turned out to be a huge success at the box office. Starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, and Trisha Krishnan among others, PS 1 showcases the story of one of India’s greatest empires, the Cholas. As per Wikipedia, Mani Ratnam’s PS: 1 made a domestic gross of INR 335 Crores
5. Vikram (INR 306.5 Crores)
Starring superstar Kamal Haasan in the lead, Vikram turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office. The story is about Vikram, who follows a team of operatives, who are on a deadly operation of capturing brutal murderers. The movie made on the budget of INR 120 Crores, managed to earn around INR 306.5 Crores domestically
6. Brahmastra (INR 306.4 Crores)
Ayan Mukherjee’s Brahmastra: Part One-Shiva managed to become the highest Hindi grosser as it earned 306.48 at the domestic box office.
