Before the failure of Thugs of Hindustan and Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan was famous for choosing the perfect movies, that went on to become blockbusters at the box office. And, one such film that touched millions of fans and turned into a blockbuster is Taare Zameen Par. The movie received love from both audience and critics. The movie made so many of us cry with its emotional screenplay and heart-touching songs.
But, unfortunately, not many people are aware that the role of Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a cheerful and optimistic instructor, wasn’t supposed to be played by Aamir initially.
In an interview with Mid Day, Dil Chahta Hai star Akshaye Khanna shared how the Taare Zameen Par filmmaker Amole Gupte had Akshaye Khanna in his mind for the role of art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh.
Amole Gupte went to Aamir Khan to ask him to introduce him to Akshaye Khanna. Sharing the details of what happened next, Askhaye Khanna said, “Aamir being Aamir, told him I cannot recommend a script unless I hear it first. So make me hear it, if I will like it, I will tell Akshaye.”
He further added, “But he (Aamir) liked it so much that he did it.”
Many would agree that Taare Zameen Par was a missed opportunity for Akshaye Khanna. But, fortunately, he has no issues with Aamir, who later confessed to Akshaye what exactly had happened.
Akshaye further added, “I don’t think I could have done a better job than Aamir. He was superb. So it was good that destiny kind of took him.”
To the revelation, here’s how the internet reacted:
While Akshaye Khanna will be soon seen in the sequel of Drishyam, which is set to release on 18th November 2022.
