In recent times, films are witnessing a weird trend. The movies that receive lukewarm responses at the box office turn into huge OTT hits. ’83, Jersey, Jayeshbhai Jordaar and now Anek. Yes, Anek is the new entrant on this list of movies that performed badly at the box office but did amazingly well on OTT.
Anek, which was released on Netflix on 26th June, has received a lot of love from the audience. As Ayushmaan Khurrana has the knack of selecting great stories like Article 15, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and so many more, people on the internet were excited about the movie. And, that is quite clear from its performance on OTT.
When Anek was released at the box office, it received mixed reactions from the audience and critics. While it may not be able to pull the audience to the theatre, it surely turned out to be a hot favourite on OTT. Though Netflix did not invest in the movie promotion as it did for Gangubai Kathiawadi or Bhool Bhulaiya 2, Anek still managed to perform well. As per the sources, the movie managed to gather a good number of watch hours and turned into the second most-watched non-English film in the world. Yes, you read that right.

As per the various reports, Tabu, Karthik Aryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiya 2 remained at the top of the list of watch hours. But, as far as the most-watched non-English film is concerned, Anek surpassed Bhool Bhulaiya and became the second most-watched non-English film.
“Kaisse Pata Chalta Hai Ki Kaun Indian Hai?”: The movie focuses on a very critical topic of unity in diversity. With the inspiring message, this movie is a must-watch.
In case you are wondering, what netizens have to say about Anek, here are the responses:

1) The reason why #Anek didn’t do well in the box office is because most mainland Indians know nothing about the NE and have no interest in learning about the realities of the NE. This movie is the only movie with has true NE representation. I’m guessing most reviewers too know..

In spite of some of its flaws, #Anek is a film that exposes a disturbing truth & asks some pertinent questions. Focusing on the neglected North-East India, it talks about the difference between peace & control. ‘One’s peace is another’s chaos’.@ayushmannk @NetflixIndia pic.twitter.com/xSydL8ViPF

#aNEk – A recent Indian movie that seeks the core value of identity n citizenry. It reminded me Article 15.
Another must-watch from Anubhav Sinha & Ayushman Khurrana. #netflix #Anek— Basanta Basnet (@basantabasnet) June 29, 2022
Peace is a subjective hypothesis. Buddha achieved Peace but what about the peace of his son Rahul and wife Yashodhara. Peace is never achieved. Violence is achieved. They are some dialogues from the movie #Anek. Thought-provoking movie. Recommended. Must watch. #AyushmannKhurrana
