Recently, after hosting Ranveer-Alia, Karan hosted Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in the second episode of Koffee with Karan season 7. And, though some find the show entertaining, there were many people who came forward to call out Karan for his problematic and distasteful question about Sara’s upbringing in a troubled and broken family.

For unversed, Sara Ali Khan is the daughter of Saif and Amrita Singh. The couple got divorced and Saif got married to Kareena Kapoor. And, from the very beginning, Sara has been vocal about her family situation. She has always addressed the issue related to her family in a mature and admirable way.

But, recently, how Karan put her in a tight spot, left many angry and disappointed. In his recent episode, Karan made a distasteful comparison between Janhvi’s & Sara’s upbringing.

During the show, he mentioned how Janhvi was raised as a princess while Sara was a product of a turbulent married relationship. Without any apprehensions or reservations, he tells Sara that she didn’t have the protective daddy vibe that Jahnvi has! He further asks her if she misses having a protective father like Janhvi’s.

Sara answered this problematic question with so much calmness and maturity.“It’s true (I didn’t have the protective daddy vibe)…My father and Boney uncle are going to watch this, so I don’t want to say anything weird. But I definitely think that we are both very different because of the way we were brought up. Having said that, mom isn’t necessarily protective in the way that she’d call me 10 times, but she’s a very, very solid person that I know has my back.”

Not just us but many felt that it was a problematic question that shouldn’t be asked to anyone raised in a broken family. Many people thought it was distasteful for KJo to ask it. Angry netizens took to social media and here’s what they have to say:

It is sad how even in the 21st century, kids of separated parents have to justify their upbringing. Though Sara may not have a protective father, she was raised by a strong and independent mother, who tried her level best to give her the best life. In a country, where kids from broken families still face so much judgment, Karan should have given a thought before asking this distasteful question. What do you think?
