Thanks to OTT, now the audience has an opportunity to watch good quality content. And, this is why even when there are new shows and movies arriving on streaming platforms every week, there are only a few selective web series and movies that leave the audience impressed. Recently, one such show that received immense love from audience across the country is TVF’s Panchayat.
Panchayat with its talented star cast and brilliant storytelling has touched the hearts of millions. Even though Panchayat has talented actors, it certainly did not have so-called “stars”. Still, with its simplicity and power-packed performances, the web series left the whole nation impressed.
In times, when the superstars are failing to move the audience, the success of shows like Panchayat is an indication of changing times.
Recently, many star studded movies failed to generate enough audience for their scheduled shows. Not just Kangana Ranaut starrer action-drama, Dhaakad, but also superstar Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj faced low occupancy at the theatres.
While the Panchayat received a lot of love from the audience, the big-budget movie like Samrat Prithviraj opened to a lot of criticism. From casting the 54-year-old actor in the role of the king who was in his 20s to countless goof ups, the movie left the audience highly disappointed.
Netizens have come forward to share how the movie is factually incorrect and there are so many goof-ups. From white hair on the chest to an untied hand to the wrong time frame, the netizens have called out many factual errors in the movie.
The reason why Panchayat found a greater audience than most of the recent star-studded movies is its dedication to its storyline and not the star.
The beauty of Panchayat is that it boasts of actors and not stars. Every actor is so honest in playing the character that you couldn’t stop yourself from falling in love with them. Be it Abhishek aka Sachiv Ji or Pradhan Ji or Manjula Devi – the actors did a great job at hiding their own identities and presenting such believable characters.
But, Bollywood still prefers star power over the story and character. That’s the reason why Bollywood feels it is okay to cast a 54-year-old man in a role of a king who died in his 20s. While makers may be okay with their inappropriate casting decision, the audience wasn’t.
The success of Panchayat lies in the fact that rather than letting one character takes the center stage, the show puts the story at the center stage. With so many relatable problems, realistic solutions, and unique characters, this show does justice to each and every character. And, that’s the reason why we didn’t only fall in love with Sachiv Ji, but also with every other character.
It is the power of good content and not “stars” that the whole country celebrated when Pradhanji took a stand for her daughter.
It is the power of good content and not “stars” that when Prahlad lost his son, we felt that we lost one of our own!
It is the power of good content and not “stars” that the whole country could admire this hilarious and clean humor.
It is the power of good content and not “stars” that we are as excited for Abhishek and Rinki’s love story as if they are our own friends!

The success of Panchayat and the failure of star-studded movies are pointing at a trend that Bollywood can’t afford to miss. We don’t want to watch remakes; We don’t want to watch so-called stars; We just want good stories! Period.
