Recently, Sanjay Mishra-Neena Gupta starrer Vadh was released on Netflix. And, in no time, the movie received lot of appreciation from the audience across the country.
In case you haven’t watched it, here are the reasons why you must. But, before we explain the reason why the movie deserves a standing ovation, let’s look at the plot of the movie first.
Vadh Movie Plot:
The tortuous journey of elderly parents and the challenges they experience after their son deserts them is the main theme of the movie. A retired teacher (Sanjay Mishra) and his wife (Neena Gupta) are satisfied with their mundane middle-class existence in the city of Gwalior, until their son decides to go to America for higher studies.
The time when the couple should have enjoyed their retired life, they are struggling to muster up the courage to ask their ungrateful NRI son Guddu to help them. Many years ago, Shambhunath Mishra (Sanjay) took a large loan to send his son to the US for further studies. But, things got worse when the struggling couple are troubled by the menacing thug Prajapati Pandey (Saurabh Sachdeva). One night, he stops by their home and the story took an unexpected turn.
As the helpless couple is insulted in their own home, the movie leaves you emotional. How this struggling helpless couple fits into the larger story of intimation is what the movie is all about. The movie title ‘Vadh’ means an honorable or justified killing as the old couple grapple with right and wrong.
What Makes Vadh An Extraordinary Movie
Hard-hitting Performances:
Actress Neena Gupta is among those who excel at portraying compelling characters – from playing a Sarpanch in Panchayat to a groaning housewife in Vadh. As one of the most accomplished artists, Neena Gupta is still capable of producing work, which is relatable to even today’s youth. From her body language to facial gestures to accent, everything leaves you impressed.
Not just veteran actress Neena Gupta, even Sanjay Mishra does a terrific job as well. Who would have imagined he could bring his signature humor to a serious job and still make it work? He is undoubtedly one of the most underrated actors of recent times. The Vadh actor does an excellent job of portraying a man who is about to give up but has such a strong sense of justice that he battles tooth and nail to stop the wrongdoing.
Beautiful Portrayal of Couple’s Relationship:
Even though Mr. and Mrs. Mishra (Sanjay and Neena) experience emotional and financial hardship throughout the film, their relationship just provides the right amount of emotion. Not just words but also actions can convey how two people feel about one another. They may not shout “I love you” at every second moment, but they show love to each other through their actions. Like the character of Sanjay Mishra shows his concern and affection for Neena’s character by advising her to take care of her knee pain or by wrapping her in a blanket as he goes to bed.
Dialogues
“Humne hatya nahi ki hai, vadh kiya hai!”, is just a reminder of how powerful the dialogues are. Don’t miss the talented cast giving their best performance along with the hard-hitting dialogues.
We are not saying that Vadh is completely flawless. The movie has its own flaws. But, keeping the flaws aside, the movie is still worthy of applause for its hard-hitting performances, powerful dialogues and gripping plot.
