It is quite impressive how with changing times, traditions of Indian weddings are evolving too. Though there have been countless debates about how our wedding rituals are not about equality but are reminders of patriarchy. For example, the bride touches the groom’s feet to show respect and seek his blessings. This particular ritual stands against the ‘equality’ promised in the relationship and marriage.
But, recently, a video went viral that showed a groom touching bride’s feet during the wedding ceremony. This beautiful and heartwarming incident took place during the wedding of Arnav Roy and Diti Goradia Roy. Later, the bride took to her Instagram and shared the beautiful visuals from the ceremony.
She wrote the following caption while sharing the beautiful pics from the ceremony: “Our pandit didn’t like this at all. But by the end of the ceremony, he whispered to me: “You are one very lucky girl.”Marry your equal in every sense of the word!”
As per the sources, the wedding took place towards the beginning of this year. But, Diti uploaded an Instagram Reel of the incident a couple of days back. This reel has received so much love and appreciation from the netizens. Till now more than 400,000 people have liked the video.

This gesture of showing mutual respect wins hearts over the internet. Here is how people reacted to the video:
“Aww that is the most adorable thing I saw on internet today…. like I was going through something upsetting but after seeing this my mood was lit …. God bless you girl you have found yourself a gem.” – mahekkk.b._; He is raised right ❤ – aryanprabhakaran; “@mister.roy you’re such a beautiful man! @ditigoradia truly has the sweetest, best hubby ever! Always setting such high standards.” – ishashriniwas; “The standard every man should follow ❤️ – amaria8; So sweet of him to fall on a girls feet ….no man will do..i hope he will e honest to you forever….god bless you both..i have not met you guys but im sending you my blessing with a whole heart of happiness …” – ani.366
But sadly, there were some regressive people, who just couldn’t resist but spread toxicity:
“Our ancestors or that pandit isn’t wrong. Usually the wives touch the feet of their husbands because her husband or the groom is elder than her most of the time even the legal age of man is more than women. Don’t utter bullshit about our culture” – v__e_e_r_; Don’t worry he is overexcited and he will regret this gesture for lifelong anyway…. I have to play the next ball the bowler and umpire is waiting” – thejillnjack
This is not the first time that the couple has added a new progressive twist to the marriage traditions and rituals. It’s common to witness couples bending wedding rituals to add a bit of equality for both partners. Sometime back, a similar incident happened when the groom touched the feet of the bride. In another incident, the bride tied the mangalsutra to the groom as well. And, how could we forget Rajkummar Rao, who had asked his wife Patralekhaa to put sindoor on his forehead?
While these may be little gestures but they indicate how the younger generation is not only making marriage equal but the rituals and traditions too. They are doing things their way and we are loving it. What do you think? Don’t forget to tell us in the comments below.
