While the whole world may be busy in debating about the women’s future under the Taliban rule, there are some brave souls who are standing for themselves.

Many across the world were shaken when the horrifying scenes of the Taliban taking control over Afghan soil surfaced over media. Hundreds of Afghans swarmed Kabul airport for their last chance to escape the country.

While many were trying to flee the war-torn nation, four courageous women took to the Kabul streets to protest against the Taliban. This is the first demonstration by women in Kabul after Taliban militants took over.

Wearing black abayas and hijabs, these women were holding up the placards in protest. They were chanting ‘we want our rights’ at the Wazir Akbar Khan area in Kabul.

Though Taliban is notoriously known for oppressing women, they didn’t do or say anything to stop these female protestors.

An Al Jazeera correspondent tweeted the video and captioned it:

Translation: We want our rights, here are women, we want social security, the ban on work, the right to education and the right to political participation. No force can ignore and stifle women. All our achievements over the years should not be compromised and our basic rights.

While many applaud the courage of these brave souls, there were few who showed concern about the protest being used as an opportunity by Taliban to improve its image. In any case, we hope this protest encourages many more women to stand for themselves and be their own hero!
